UNKNOWN WINDOWS 95/98 PASSWORD

If the password for Windows 95/98 is unknown (lost, changed, etc.), it can be reset.

Search the local hard drive (usually C:) for *.PWL:
– Click on Start | Find | Files & Folders
– In ‘Files Named’, enter *.PWL”
– Click FIND NOW

There will be one .PWL file for each username that has ever logged into Windows.
Delete the one with the same login name that has the unknown password.

The next time you log into Windows using this username, Windows will prompt you for a password and a confirmation. It can either be left blank or set to match a corresponding fileserver logon. This will not affect the logon password of any fileservers in any way. A new .PWL file will be created for that username.
