Purchasing Specialist – Technology Procurement

We’re looking for a detail‐driven Purchasing Specialist to manage procurement for our POS hardware, software, and IT components. This role requires strong technical understanding, precise order management, and consistent vendor coordination.

Core Responsibilities

• Validate and enter customer orders with 100% accuracy.
• Generate purchase orders for hardware, software, and licensing.
• Act as the main point of contact for vendors regarding pricing, availability, and product details.
• Respond to inbound calls from clients and vendors.
• Research and evaluate new products; coordinate internal testing and documentation.
• Monitor vendor quotas, deadlines, and performance metrics.
• Build and maintain purchasing forecasts based on sales and inventory data.
• Conduct regular audits of vendor files and purchasing records.

Technical & Industry Knowledge

• Understanding of software licensing (per‐seat, subscription, perpetual, etc.).
• Experience purchasing or configuring hardware/software.
• Familiarity with computer/server specs and technical terminology.
• POS or retail technology experience is highly beneficial.

Compensation: $50,000–$80,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus uncapped commission. First-year earning potential is up to $120,000.

This is an office-based sales position located in Sacramento, California, with travel to national trade shows and prospective client sites. It is not a remote position.

What You’ll Do

• Prospect for new business while following up on company-provided leads
• Navigate gatekeepers and reach business owners and decision-makers
• Conduct compelling online and in-person Retail Pro demonstrations
• Manage opportunities from initial contact through closing
• Attend national retail trade shows and visit prospective client sites as needed
• Build lasting customer relationships

What We’re Looking For

• A true hunter who enjoys finding and closing new business
• At least two years of successful outside sales experience
• Excellent phone, presentation, demonstration, and closing skills
• Confidence in prospecting and cold calling
• Strong work ethic, persistence, passion, and follow-through
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent sales experience
• Retail, software, technology, or point-of-sale experience is a strong plus
• Ability to travel as needed

Big Hairy Dog is seeking an experienced help desk technical support for various POS software including Retail Pro and Quickbooks POS. Require at least two years of telephone and onsite application support. Candidate must be able to support multi-site, multi-network server/work station environment and be able to support all Microsoft Operating Systems. Inventory control, point of sale and/or retail operations experience and SQL knowledge recommended. About the Role

You’ll take ownership of everything around the sale — quotes, client requests, internal coordination — so our salespeople can focus on what they do best. In-office, Sacramento (not remote).

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and send client quotes and proposals
• Handle client requests via phone and email, through to completion
• Coordinate with Sales, Support, Accounting, and Operations
• Schedule meetings and manage client communications
• Track outstanding requests and maintain sales records
• Juggle multiple projects and deadlines

Requirements:

• 3+ years in a similar sales support or admin role
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• CRM experience a plus

Qualifications
2-4 years of experience in a similar job.
Excellent communications skills both written and verbal with the ability to explain complicated technical information to any level of customer.
Should have the ability to build lesson plans and documentation for the “classroom feel”.
Must be able to judge how well the customers are absorbing the material and adjust accordingly as well as follow-up and keep customers on track with their training lessons.
Retail experience is highly recommended. Report writing software experience a plus.

Shipping, receiving and INVENTORY CONTROL. UPS Worldship/FEDEX online system knowledge and excellent organizational skill a MUST. Hardware/Technical experience a plus.
This position requires testing of hardware and peripherals prior to shipping to customers, running errands to post office, UPS, FedEx and to storage facility. We are looking for an extremely organized person with an ability to work on multiple tasks, keeping the warehouse neat, clean and organized.

Requirements:

Must type at least 35 WPM.

Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license

Full-Time position – Monday thru Friday 9:00 am- 6:00 pm
